Tropical Oasis - Hampstead
Tropical Garden Design
Our client's brief was to create a Garden of Eden complete with water feature - the sound of running water an essential requirement. Planting had to be lush and exotic. Her busy career in television meant it also had to be a low maintenance garden
The site was difficult to say the leasr, being very long and narrow, so our first task was to overcome this by creating an illusion of space, and by providing a better sense of proportion and balance. This was achieved by making a very wide back garden bed, densly planted with lush exotic foliage and a central focal point of a natural looking pond complete with water filteration. The pond was formed with several tons of aged Westmoreland rocks. Effectively this divided the garden into two distinct areas - the jungle with the pond and the sound of water, and the more cultivated look of lawn and patio at the beginning of the garden. A seating area at the far end of the garden accessed by a path through the foliage meant that our client could wile away any spare time relaxing at the water's edge.
The bondaries were planted with mature bamboo to screen her from the neighbours and with a planting of mature palm trees, tree ferns, banana plants and other dramatic foliage the gardeen became a very special enclave to escape the madness of the outside world.
Special attention to the lighting of the garden and provision of an irrigation system for lower maintenance completed our brief - Bali meets London and one of our most exciting projects.
